🆘So Reckless! North Korean Hackers Attack Japanese Exchange⁉️

On December 23, the FBI and other law enforcement agencies revealed details of hackers stealing over $300 million in Bitcoin from the Japanese cryptocurrency exchange DMM in May.

The FBI stated that a North Korean hacker impersonated a recruiter on LinkedIn in March. This hacker contacted an employee of the Japanese crypto wallet company Ginco. The agency reported that this hacker sent a malicious link to the employee, which allowed access to Ginco's wallet management system.

The employee thought the link was a pre-employment test on a GitHub page, copied the code to their personal GitHub, and consequently was breached.

The FBI stated that in May, hackers from the TraderTraitor group used the information they acquired to impersonate the employee and gain access to Ginco's communication system.

The agency indicated that the hackers “likely used this access to manipulate legitimate trading requests from DMM employees.” As a result, more than $300 million in Bitcoin was lost during this attack. According to the FBI, these funds were transferred to wallets controlled by the TraderTraiter group.
