The scheme managed to compromise over 15 X accounts, resulting in an estimated loss of half a million dollars. Here’s what happened: the attackers created a sense of urgency by sending fake copyright infringement notices to high-profile account holders, prompting them to visit phishing websites.
Once the victims entered their login credentials, the hackers accessed their accounts and started pushing scams related to fraudulent Solana tokens. They even went as far as bridging stolen funds between the Solana and Ethereum networks to hide their tracks. ZachXBT’s investigation revealed that all the compromised accounts were linked through six deployer addresses used for the scams.
This isn’t an isolated incident but part of a broader trend where social media platforms are being exploited by cybercriminals looking to profit from cryptocurrencies. To protect yourself against such attacks, it’s essential to use unique email addresses for different services and enable two-factor authentication (2FA) using security keys when possible.
