Analysis of the “Santa Claus Market” Phenomenon in the Crypto Market
In the unique context of the financial market, the "Santa Claus Market" has a specific time definition, that is, the market performance during the last five trading days of each year and the first two trading days of the following year. This concept has also attracted much attention in the crypto market, and it presents a complex and diverse situation. Looking back, among the years without the "Santa Claus market", the crypto market in 2017 experienced quite violent turbulence before Christmas, and its market value fell sharply, with a decline of 12.12%, becoming a more prominent case. In contrast, the crypto market before Christmas in other years was relatively stable, with a limited correction, basically in a relatively mild range of 0.74% to 1.25%. Judging from the market performance after Christmas, there were corrections of 5.30% and 1.90% in 2021 and 2022, respectively, which also reflects the differences in market changes between different years.
