The SpaceCoin startup team has taken the first step in creating a decentralized space network by launching its debut satellite. This marks the beginning of the project to create an orbital blockchain aimed at enhancing data security.

The launch took place on December 21, 2024, with the payload being delivered by the SpaceX Falcon 9 FT Block 5 rocket. The launch occurred from the SLC-4E launch pad at Vandenberg, California.

The satellite, equipped with compact 'crypto-engines' and data modules, is the first in a future series of similar devices. They are intended to serve as the foundation for a global network of satellites supporting the project's blockchain. Additionally, the devices are equipped with a special self-destruction mechanism that prevents data capture by third parties, the developers stated.
