PANews reported on December 20 that according to Christine Kim, vice president of Galaxy Research, at the 202nd Ethereum Core Developer Executive (ACDE) conference call, Ethereum core developers focused on discussing the Pectra specification update and its impact on EIP 7742, EIP 7702, EIP 2537, and EIP 2935, and confirmed that EIP 7840 will replace EIP 7742 to simplify implementation. In addition, the meeting discussed plans to remove pre-merge historical data (EIP 4444) from the client and solutions to further optimize gas and network propagation limits.
The team reported that the implementation of Pectra Devnet 5 is progressing smoothly, with Besu and Teku client testing progressing the fastest, and the testnet is expected to go online in late December or early 2025. Other important topics include the application of zero-knowledge technology in Ethereum, EVM opcode pricing adjustments, and proposals to reserve a range of transaction types for rollups.
