#MarketCorrectionBuyOrHODL Kraken Layer 2 Blockchain: INK Goes Mainnet Ahead of Schedule

December 19, 2024

Inc, Kraken’s L2 blockchain-based solution powered by Optimism, is now live on the mainnet today.

This launch happened dramatically ahead of schedule, indicating strong support and enthusiasm from the crypto community. INK and Optimism anticipate a fruitful collaboration due to this wave of enthusiasm.

Ink and optimism work together

According to today’s announcement, Kraken has accelerated the launch of INK due to millions of transactions on the testnet and connected wallets, highlighting strong demand. The exchange initially stated that INK would not launch until 2025. Now that the network is live ahead of schedule, it will move toward Phase 1 of decentralization with permissionless proof-of-concept in January.

“Today is just the beginning for Ink, and now begins our truly boldest work – the growth of Ink. We are pushing the boundaries of on-chain experimentation to open up new applications and opportunities for builders and users alike. Thank you to our early supporters of Ink who have been incredibly positive. We are shaping the future together,” Andrew Kohler, Ink founder, told BeInCrypto.

According to public statements, “demand from builders and community support” helped drive the rapid launch. Inc plans to focus on decentralization and interoperability as it moves forward. Kraken has suffered some setbacks in the past month, with an $8 million fine in Australia and the closure of its NFT marketplace. Still, Inc is looking positive.

Kraken Inc. was developed as an L2 on the Optimism Superchain, whose representatives also publicly commented on the launch. The company noted that Inc. quickly grew to over 100,000 users after the initial announcement, and the testnet also saw dramatic levels of activity and enthusiasm.

“Ink’s rapid mainnet launch is a testament to the strength of the team, the resources dedicated to its success, and the great enthusiasm from the developer community for the launch. As part of the superchain, Ink will be participating in Optimism. We look forward to working together to attract developers and users to Ink as we scale Ethereum,” said Ryan White, Head of Growth at Optimism Unlimited.

At the same time, Optimism also faced some challenges before the mainnet launch. In October, the scaling solution system was under pressure, and the chain’s OP token suffered price shocks. The crypto bull market did little to benefit the token’s value, and it showed disappointing performance throughout the year.

INK is moving forward to be deeply integrated into Optimism’s superchain. In exclusive comments with BeInCrypto , White claimed that INK will “participate in the governance of Optimism, allocate revenue back to the collective, and support the core development of the OP stack.” From these statements, it seems that both companies anticipate a long and fruitful partnership.
