Wenchang People's Court concluded a case of using cryptocurrency to trade personal information, and the principal offender was sentenced for illegally selling 82 million pieces of information

Wu said that according to The Paper, the Wenchang People's Court in Hainan Province recently concluded a case involving the use of cryptocurrency to trade personal information. The court investigation showed that the defendant Han purchased more than 82.24 million pieces of personal information on QQ for 500 yuan in 2021, including 7,271 photos of holding ID cards, 30.69 million pieces of car owner information and 1.07 million pieces of bank user information. From March to April 2023, Han sold personal information through platforms such as QQ, WeChat, and Telegram, and cooperated with the courier Wu to obtain express transaction information, trading at a price of 1.5 yuan per piece in USDT, and making a profit of 770 yuan through the exchange on the Oui platform. The court sentenced Han to one year and eight months in prison and a fine of 3,000 yuan for the crime of infringing on citizens' personal information. The defendant Wu in the same case was sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for one year and four months, and fined 2,000 yuan.
