On December 10, Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT ) made crypto headlines after its shareholders overwhelmingly rejected MicroStrategy's (NASDAQ: MSTR ) Michael Saylor's urging for a corporate investment in Bitcoin ( BTC ).

In the short term, the decision had little impact on Microsoft's stock price, and although it did cause Bitcoin to plummet, the decline was extremely short-lived.

In fact, in early May 2018, Gates also made crypto headlines for declaring that he would short BTC if he could.

When Gates calls for shorting, how long is it?

While the long-term impact of Microsoft's shareholder decision remains to be seen, as of press time on December 13, 2024, Gates's personal opposition to Bitcoin has already been a decisive mistake.
