A16z CEO Emerges as Leading Candidate to Head CFTC Under Trump Administration
Brian Quintins, head of cryptocurrency policy at a16z, has emerged as a leading candidate to head the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) under the incoming Trump administration, according to a Bloomberg report.
Quintins has extensive experience in digital assets, having previously overseen the launch of the first regulated futures contracts for Bitcoin and Ethereum while serving as a commissioner on the commission during the Obama and Trump administrations.
Quintins currently advises a16z on cryptocurrency policy and investment issues, and has recently worked with the Trump transition team on crypto policy in coordination with David Sachs, Trump’s appointee as an advisor on artificial intelligence and cryptocurrencies.
His candidacy has strong support from a16z co-founders Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz.
Other candidates include current CFTC commissioners Summer Mersinger and Caroline Pham, as well as former officials Joshua Sterling and Neil Kumar.
The name of the next CFTC chair will be revealed in the coming days and it will certainly have a direct impact on the cryptocurrency market.
