The Secretary for Economy and Finance of Macao, Lei Wai Nong, announced that with the support of the People's Bank of China, the Macao SAR has successfully built the prototype system for the digital Macanese Pataca (e-MOP), laying a necessary foundation for the future development of the digital Macanese Pataca. The Chairman of the Administrative Committee of the Monetary Authority of Macao, Chan Sau San, introduced that the digital Macanese Pataca, as the legal currency of the Macao SAR, has the same legal status and value as banknotes and coins, is fully backed by 100% reserves, and has full legal tender status.
