Byte Federal, a US Bitcoin ATM operator, suffered a data breach, and the information of thousands of customers may have been exposed. 😮

The Florida-based company revealed in documents submitted to the Maine Attorney General that hackers attempted to obtain sensitive data of 58,000 customers, including names, addresses, and social security numbers. The intrusion occurred on September 30, but was not discovered until November 18. 🔍

The attackers successfully hacked into Byte Federal's network by exploiting a vulnerability in the third-party software GitLab. In response to the incident, the company has hard reset all customer accounts and updated internal passwords. 🔒

Byte Federal operates more than 1,200 Bitcoin ATMs across the United States, and the incident has raised widespread concerns about the security of cryptocurrency transactions.
