A peer-to-peer cryptocurrency created in Iceland in 2014 as an alternative to the Icelandic króna and bitcoin. Auroracoin is independent of the banking system and has a fixed supply to help prevent inflation. The coin's creators, using the pseudonym Baldur Friggjar Óðinsson, planned to distribute half of all Auroracoin to Iceland's national ID database for free.
