ChainCatcher message, outgoing Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das expects the digital rupee to fundamentally change the Indian economy and emphasizes the gradual adoption of CBDC.

In his farewell speech on December 10, Das highlighted his efforts over the past six years to harness new technologies, including the establishment of the RBI Innovation Center and the fintech innovation regulatory sandbox in Bangalore.

Speaking about India's progress in CBDC development, Das pointed out that many central banks globally are still in the initial discussion and experimentation phases.

On the other hand, he said, "Among central banks, the Reserve Bank of India is a pioneer," as it remains one of the few central banks to have launched CBDC pilot projects.
