🔍Uniswap wants to go solo, Ethereum network validators may lose hundreds of millions every year?

Uniswap Labs, the leading decentralized exchange on Ethereum, has recently announced that it will launch its own new chain, Unichain. This is significant because it could cause Ethereum validators to earn 400 to 500 million dollars less each year! That's no small amount and could potentially undermine the foundation of Ethereum's ecological prosperity.

Moreover, this is not just a matter of capital outflow. Uniswap has always been the largest consumer of gas fees on Ethereum, accounting for 14.5% of Ethereum's gas fees. If they leave, it would effectively destroy 1.6 billion dollars worth of Ethereum. This means the effect of the burn mechanism will weaken, further undermining Ethereum's economic position.

It's like when a very core distributor partner suddenly tells you that they want to expand on their own; you know that feeling of betrayal, right?

Justin Bons, CEO of Cyber Capital, also spoke up, stating that Ethereum is now at a critical moment. If everyone runs to use Layer 2 solutions, then the Ethereum mainnet may not be as active, and security guarantees will be affected, leading to a vicious cycle.

It's like, in a once-bustling square, suddenly everyone runs to the nearby small park; will the lively scene in the square still exist?

Opinion:

Personally, I believe that Ethereum will not be significantly affected by the launch of Unichain. After all, Unichain is merely a Layer 2 solution, more like an enhancement on Ethereum rather than undermining it. I believe that Ethereum's ecosystem is strong enough to adapt to this new change, and it might even become more robust as a result. So, I remain optimistic about Ethereum's future.
