According to Foresight News, reported by Bitcoin.com, Bitcoin.org domain maintainer Cobra has issued a warning that a user-activated soft fork (UASF) led by anonymous developers outside of the Bitcoin core project may occur in 2025 to introduce the CTV (Check Template Verify) feature. CTV aims to introduce the concept of smart contracts, allowing for the setting of Bitcoin spending conditions in specific wallets.

This proposal originates from Bitcoin Improvement Proposal 119 (BIP 119), proposed by Jeremy Lubin, primarily aimed at enhancing transaction security. Supporters believe that CTV can provide a more secure cold storage solution, while opponents are concerned that this may affect Bitcoin's fungibility and increase the complexity of the codebase. Cobra indicated that due to potential litigation risks, these improvements will be pushed by non-Bitcoin Core developers, which may trigger significant divisions between the 'hardliners' and the 'improvers'.
