The Shiba Inu development team has successfully implemented an emergency security upgrade to the Shibarium Bridge.
This update comes ahead of an expected major hard fork to improve network performance and scalability.
Shibarium is preparing for a major update after the emergency bridge upgrade
On November 30, Shiba Inu Ecosystem developer Kal Dahria confirmed that a major maintenance effort had been completed on the Shibarium Bridge. The upgrade temporarily put the bridge into maintenance mode to address security concerns and prepare for upcoming changes. Dahria assured users that their funds remained safe during the process.
The bridge enables seamless and secure token transfers between Ethereum and Shibarium. During maintenance, token burning was temporarily paused, but the burn amounts continued to accumulate in the background. With the security upgrade now complete, the bridge is fully operational again.
Daheria confirmed that while the bridge is operational, upgrades to the burn contracts are still in progress. These improvements will continue through the weekend and into the following week.
“Maintenance is complete and the Shibarium Bridge is now fully operational. We are still working on upgrades to the burn contracts, which will continue over the weekend and into next week,” said Daheria.
This update comes as Shiba Inu’s layer-2 blockchain solution, Shibarium, prepares for a pivotal hard fork. Scheduled to take place early next week, the hard fork aims to improve network performance, enhance transaction speeds, and address scalability issues. These improvements are expected to lay the foundation for Shiba Inu’s long-term growth, ensuring it can handle increased demand while maintaining efficiency.
“A hard fork is a major protocol upgrade that can introduce new features, resolve performance bottlenecks, and improve overall functionality. For Shiba Inu’s scalable Layer 2 network, the upcoming hard fork is specifically designed to increase throughput and improve overall capacity,” the statement said.
Since its launch last year, Shibarium has gained significant momentum. The platform has processed nearly 600 million transactions and hit its 500 millionth milestone earlier this month. Additionally, around 2 million blockchain addresses have interacted with Shibarium, and the network has successfully processed over 8 million blocks.
Therefore, the impending upgrade represents an important strategic milestone for the Shiba Inu ecosystem, signaling its commitment to innovation, network improvement, and expanding its blockchain capabilities.
