The proposal to have Microsoft invest in #BTC comes from the American conservative think tank National Center for Public Policy Research (NCPPR). On October 24, 2024, the organization recommended to Microsoft's board that the company invest at least 1% of its total assets in Bitcoin to hedge against inflation and protect shareholder value.
One day after NCPPR made this proposal, on October 25, 2024, MicroStrategy founder Michael Saylor suggested on social media that Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella explore Bitcoin investment to generate an additional trillion dollars for Microsoft shareholders.
Michael Saylor's explanation to Microsoft was also under the recommendation of NCPPR. In fact, Michael Saylor had attempted to discuss this privately with Satya Nadella but did not receive acceptance.
So Michael Saylor's explanation was not initiated by Microsoft, but rather Microsoft accepted a proposal from investors. Whether BlackRock's lobbying was involved is another matter. In fact, the probability of this passing is still quite low; I personally give it a 30% chance, which is optimistic.
