Australia Bans Children Under 16 From Social Media $PEPE $ICP $XRP
The Australian Senate has passed a law banning children under 16 from using social media. It has already been approved by the House of Representatives, Reuters reports.
The document forces Instagram, X, TikTok, Snapchat and others to restrict minors from accessing their systems. The fine for violation will be up to 49.5 million AUD ($32 million).
The country's authorities plan to test an age verification system with biometric identification. The law will come into force in November 2025.
Tech giants have spoken out against strict regulation. Alphabet and Meta proposed postponing the ban, Bytedance pointed out the need to finalize the law, and X saw the initiative as an infringement of children's rights.
