【Switzerland's Bernese Canton Passes Proposal to Explore Bitcoin Mining for Excess Power Consumption and Grid Stabilization】
According to An Shouzheng, on November 29, as reported by Decrypt, the Bernese Canton Parliament in Switzerland passed a proposal with 85 votes in favor and 46 against, which will explore the use of Bitcoin mining to consume excess electricity and stabilize the grid. The proposal, put forward by a cross-party Bitcoin parliamentary group on March 14, 2024, was approved despite government opposition.
The proposal requires the government to submit reports on three key aspects: identifying unused energy areas in the Bernese Canton, assessing the feasibility of collaborating with Swiss mining companies for Bitcoin mining, and analyzing its potential to stabilize the grid during fluctuations in power supply. The proposal received support from multiple political factions, including the Swiss People's Party, the Green Liberals, the Centre Party, and the EDU.
