Justin Sun, the founder of the TRON blockchain, bought an artwork called Comedian—a banana taped to the wall—at Sotheby’s last week for $6.2 million.

The work was created by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan. This afternoon, Sun Yuchen personally ate the banana he bought with a lot of money at a press conference in Hong Kong.

According to (CNBC) reports, in addition to Sun Yuchen, there are six other bidders vying to buy this artwork. After Sun won the bid, he said on social platform

Sun paid $6.2 million for a roll of tape, instructions for "installing" the banana and (most importantly) a certificate of authenticity guaranteeing it was an original work by Cattelan, not including the banana itself. Because the value of the banana artwork comes from that certificate of authenticity, rather than the object itself, many in the crypto community have likened it to an NFT. The seller clearly understands the value and accepts payment in cryptocurrency from Justin Sun.
