Morocco is preparing to legalize cryptocurrency (BTC, ETH, BNB...) after the ban in 2017
Morocco is on the path to legalizing cryptocurrency, marking a significant shift in policy following the ban imposed in 2017. The central bank of Morocco, Bank Al-Maghrib, is drafting a new law to regulate cryptocurrencies, which is expected to be passed soon. Governor Abdellatif Jouahri has confirmed that this regulation aims to better manage digital assets, which has become necessary as interest in digital currencies has increased globally, especially as Bitcoin recently approached $100,000.
This legalization effort also involves considering the development of a central bank-issued digital currency (CBDC) to promote financial inclusion and innovation. Morocco is coordinating with international financial organizations to build this legal framework, minimizing risks such as money laundering while protecting consumer rights. Launching the new regulation will not only help Morocco re-enter the growing cryptocurrency market but also align with global trends in managing digital assets.
