Worldcoin has launched the World ID verification service in Panama. The core of this service is to provide a decentralized identity verification solution that allows users to anonymously prove their uniqueness and human identity without disclosing personal privacy through zero-knowledge proofs and advanced privacy-preserving cryptographic techniques. World ID aims to address the issues of existing identity solutions being overly centralized, infringing on privacy, or being insecure, providing an easy-to-use and integrable privacy-preserving, decentralized identity solution.
The verification process of World ID includes users installing the World App on their smartphones and creating a World ID, then scanning the QR code of their World ID at designated verification locations using Orb devices for identity verification. The Orb device captures the user's iris and facial images and generates an iris code for integrity verification, after which the original iris images are immediately deleted to ensure data security and allow users complete control over their information. The iris code is transmitted to the user's smartphone in an end-to-end encrypted manner using a public key and combined with the private key stored on the phone to complete the identity authentication.
Additionally, the World ID 2.0 version offers new verification levels that allow applications to request simplified or enhanced World ID checks based on their security needs, ensuring that users do not share more information with an application than they need or are willing to share. World ID 2.0 is also integrated with several popular e-commerce, gaming, and social media platforms, including Shopify, Mercado Libre, Minecraft, Reddit, and Telegram.
