Farcaster co-founder Dan Romero detailed the updates to Frames, a decentralized Web3 social protocol. Farcaster Frames will launch in January 2024, after which there was a surge in Farcaster's activity, with daily active users increasing by 400% in early February. However, there has been a slight decline since then.

Romero stated that the first version of Frames still has limitations, as the high number of interactions makes it impossible to build larger applications. Additionally, the image rendering speed of Frames is very slow, and the 'ephemeral' state prevents users from returning.

He said that the Frames v2 upgrade aims to address some of these issues by providing more advanced framework standards that support more flexible fullscreen in-app applications, interactive experiences, on-chain transactions, and user notifications.

"Developers can build anything that can be rendered in a browser and can use the framework SDK to trigger actions like saving frames or requesting on-chain transactions," Romero explained.

The initial new specifications for Frames that Romero highlighted will be released on November 27 for web and mobile devices, followed by an updated version with more features on December 6. According to the complete specifications on GitHub, the full stable version is expected to be released in January or February. (Cointelegraph)

Earlier today, Farcaster co-founder Dan Romero announced on X that the developer preview of Frames v2 is now live. The new version improves the reliability and speed of transactions and signing messages on mobile devices using mobile wallet protocols and Rainbow.
