Golden Finance reports that, according to CNN, U.S. Special Prosecutor Jack Smith stated on Monday that he will dismiss the election subversion case against President-elect Trump and seek to drop the case in a court document submitted to the judge. Trump has stated that once he takes office, he will fire Smith, breaking with previous norms regarding special prosecutor investigations. In a six-page document, Smith wrote, "The Department of Justice's position is that, as required by the Constitution, this case needs to be dismissed before the defendant is sworn in." Smith's two-year criminal pursuit of Trump, on charges of attempting to overturn the 2020 presidential election and his improper handling of classified documents, marks a very unique chapter in American history: never before has a former White House occupant faced federal criminal charges.
