One of the most divided elections in recent U.S. history is prompting some Americans to consider moving abroad. Industry consulting firms say that since Trump won earlier this month, interest in so-called golden visas (which grant residency through the purchase of real estate or other investments) has surged. Despite strong opposition from some governments and the European Union, some EU countries have not stopped offering 'golden visas,' which remain a favored immigration route for wealthy Americans and other affluent foreigners. Paul Williams, CEO of visa consulting firm La Vida Golden Visas, stated that many people are making plans in case they need to leave. The day after Trump's victory, the company's website saw a 22-fold increase in traffic.
