The first person to buy bitcoin was Laszlo Hanyecz, a Hungarian programmer and pioneer of cryptocurrency. He became famous for his historic act: in May 2010, Laszlo made the first transaction in history by buying two pizzas for 10,000 bitcoins.
This transaction, known as the "pizza transaction," had enormous significance as it demonstrated that bitcoin could be used in the real economy to purchase goods and services, even though at that time the value of bitcoin was almost zero compared to its current market price.
How did this happen?
Laszlo posted on the bitcoin community forum a request offering to pay 10,000 bitcoins for two pizzas. He arranged with one of the forum participants named Jeremy Sturges, who agreed to fulfill the order in exchange for bitcoins. This event became a milestone in the history of cryptocurrency, and since then, the day of buying the pizza is considered an important date in crypto culture.
At that time, 10,000 bitcoins were worth about 25 US dollars, which was equivalent to the price of two pizzas. Today, however, that amount of bitcoin is valued in millions of dollars.
The significance of this transaction
This first bitcoin transaction became a symbol of the early days of cryptocurrency when its price and value remained uncertain. Nevertheless, it also showed that bitcoin could be used as a currency for real transactions. Over time, with the growing popularity of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, such historical moments became the foundation for many crypto legends.
