Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov is interested in acquiring cryptocurrencies, but has not yet taken any steps to do so. The official said this in an interview with the Rossiya-24 TV channel.

“I’m interested, but I don’t have a crypto wallet,” he said.

Siluanov previously noted volatility as the main risk of using cryptocurrencies as a means of saving. However, he highly praised their capabilities for payments.

The Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Financial Markets, Anatoly Aksakov, also does not keep savings in digital currencies, as he told the Parlamentskaya Gazeta.

“If we talk about cryptocurrency as a way to save money, then personally I do not use it as such and do not recommend it due to its high volatility,” the deputy said.

He added that the Central Bank is preparing by-laws for conducting the first official international crypto payments.

Let us recall that on September 1, a law came into force in the Russian Federation that allows foreign trade settlements and exchange trading in cryptocurrencies within the framework of experimental legal regimes.

The Central Bank intends to conduct the first cross-border payments by the end of 2024. The head of the Central Bank, Elvira Nabiullina, called cryptocurrencies “an alternative channel for settlements” with foreign partners, transactions with whom were affected by sanctions.
