Billionaire Elon Musk, a staunch supporter of Donald Trump's campaign, is reported to have been on the call between President-elect Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on November 8 (local time).
"The senseless slaughter will soon end. The time has run out for those profiting from the war," the CEO of Tesla posted on social media at the end of the day. The billionaire's post was in response to speculation surrounding "Trump's plan with Ukraine."
According to Newsweek, Trump is reportedly planning to establish a 1,290 km demilitarized zone between Russia and Ukraine, with British and European forces patrolling the area. Under this proposal, Russia would retain its territorial interests, and Ukraine would agree not to join NATO for 20 years.
Earlier this week, the Wall Street Journal cited anonymous sources stating that President-elect Trump's transition team had put forward some ideas regarding Kiev's commitment not to join NATO for 20 years in exchange for continued U.S. military aid to Ukraine.
According to that plan, the frontline situation would be frozen and both sides would agree to an 800-mile (1,290 km) demilitarized zone (DMZ). A peacekeeping force would be deployed to this DMZ, but without the participation of the U.S. or UN blue helmets.
"We can train and support, but the firepower will be European," an anonymous member of Trump's team told the Wall Street Journal. "We are not sending Americans to maintain peace in Ukraine. We are not paying for that. Let the Poles, Germans, British, and French do this."
Some parts of this speculative proposal are quite similar to what Trump's running mate, elected Vice President JD Vance, suggested in a podcast in mid-September.
Mr. Trump has repeatedly claimed that he could stop the Russia-Ukraine conflict within 24 hours after being re-elected, but he has not provided a specific timeline on how to do that.
