US Military Given Access to Anthropic's AI Models
Anthropic is the latest AI company to provide the US government access to its AI models for national security, following Meta's recent move.
US defense agencies will now access Anthropic's Claude 3 and 3.5 models via Palantir's AI Platform, securely hosted on Amazon Web Services, Palantir announced on 7 November.
Palantir's chief technology officer Shyam Sankar explained:
“Our partnership with Anthropic and AWS provides U.S. defense and intelligence communities the tool chain they need to harness and deploy AI models securely, bringing the next generation of decision advantage to their most critical missions.”
Palantir will be the first industry partner to bring Claude models to classified environments for U.S. government intelligence and defense operations.

This integration allows the government to analyse massive datasets swiftly, extract actionable intelligence, and make timely, data-driven decisions, said Kate Earle Jensen, Anthropic's Head of Sales and Partnerships.
She noted:
"We're proud to be at the forefront of bringing responsible AI solutions to U.S. classified environments, enhancing analytical capabilities and operational efficiencies in vital government operations. Access to Claude 3 and Claude 3.5 within Palantir AIP on AWS will equip U.S. defense and intelligence organizations with powerful AI tools that can rapidly process and analyze vast amounts of complex data. This will dramatically improve intelligence analysis and enable officials in their decision-making processes, streamline resource intensive tasks and boost operational efficiency across departments."

Earlier this month, Claude was made available on Palantir's Impact Level 6 (IL6) environment, a defense-grade, highly secure system designed for classified data crucial to national security.
Anthropic and Palantir's Cooperation Follows Meta's Lead
Following Meta's recent 4 November announcement to make its Llama AI model available to US military and defense contractors, Anthropic and Palantir's partnership highlights a growing trend of AI integration into national security efforts.

Meta’s Llama is expected to support complex military logistics, track terrorist financing, and enhance US cybersecurity.
Palantir, known for its data services in defense, is collaborating on Meta's initiative, alongside tech giants like Amazon, Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, and defense-focused firms such as Lockheed Martin, Accenture, and Deloitte.
OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, is also reportedly pursuing closer ties with US defense agencies, signalling a broader push for AI-driven solutions in national security.
