PANews, November 5 - According to the South Korean Personal Information Protection Commission, the commission held its 18th plenary meeting on the 4th and decided to impose an administrative fine of over 21.6 billion Korean won (approximately 112 million yuan) on the American internet company Meta for violating South Korea's Personal Information Protection Act. According to the investigation results, Meta collected sensitive information from approximately 980,000 South Korean users' Facebook profiles, including their religious beliefs, political views, and whether they are in same-sex marriages. Under the Personal Information Protection Act, information related to personal thoughts and beliefs, political opinions, and sexual life is classified as sensitive information that requires strict protection, and processing it is generally prohibited.
