According to PANews, a new academic paper by the cryptocurrency research firm Exponential Science suggests that comprehensive bans on Bitcoin mining in certain jurisdictions could inadvertently lead to an increase in the industry's overall carbon emissions. The study indicates that affected miners might relocate to regions with fossil fuel-dependent power grids, exacerbating the environmental impact. The research highlights that bans in the United States and Europe typically worsen the situation, while a ban in Kazakhstan has shown a positive effect on emissions.
