Huawei is integrating the central bank digital currency (CBDC) digital yuan into its HarmonyOS NEXT operating system. This integration will make the digital currency more accessible and easy to use for 1 billion smartphone users.

HarmonyOS NEXT is Huawei’s third self-developed operating system, which was introduced on October 22. HarmonyOS NEXT, the world’s third most popular operating system after Android and iOS, will feature applications exclusive to HarmonyOS.

Huawei developed HarmonyOS after Google banned it in 2019. With the integration of the digital yuan, users will no longer need to download the CBDC app. The digital yuan will be further integrated into IoT devices and operating systems.

The People’s Bank of China will increase its security and monitoring capabilities through this integration. The digital yuan is making progress at events held in Beijing and has been accepted by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
