Natthamon Khongchak, a famous 32-year-old Thai YouTuber widely known by the nickname "Nutty," was recently arrested in Indonesia after a long period of hiding. She is accused of defrauding $59 million from over 6,000 victims by posing as a professional forex trader and using social media to promote a lavish lifestyle to attract investments.
Nutty fled Thailand in 2022 when her investment scheme collapsed, despite having previously promised to pay her investors. Nutty's scheme promised returns of up to 35%, but when she was unable to keep her word, she left Thailand with her personal secretary, Nichapat. They first went to Malaysia, then moved to a remote island in Indonesia to evade capture by authorities.
A wide-ranging investigation helped authorities track down Nutty and Nichapat, ultimately apprehending them in Indonesia. The case has shocked public opinion in Thailand and attracted international attention, highlighting the risks of fraudulent investment schemes promoted through social media.
