Renamed “World”: A simpler, broader vision for digital identity verification

The core of the World project is to allow people around the world to "prove that they are human beings" anonymously on the Internet, not robots or AI.

So Worldcoin created an identity verification system that allows users to scan their eye irises, create an identity verification account, and issue $WLD cryptocurrency and WorldID through the silver spherical biometric device "Orb".

After the project was renamed, World's positioning became clearer. It not only focuses on cryptocurrency, but also focuses on digital identity verification, especially in preventing counterfeit digital identities generated by AI.

At this conference, World launched an upgraded version of “Orb 2.0”. Powered by NVIDIA hardware, this new device delivers 5x higher computing performance than its predecessor and a simpler design.

Because Orb 2.0 is smaller and uses fewer parts, the device is easier to produce and can be deployed everywhere much faster. Rich Heley, the designer of World, said that the company's goal is to deploy more than 1,000 new Orbs around the world, placing them in daily scenes such as coffee shops, and even summoning them to your home at any time through the app like ordering pizza.

At the same time, World also plans to open "advanced verification experience" stores in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Mexico City. These stores will be filled with Orbs for users to go to for identity verification.

What’s more interesting is that these devices may also appear in some self-service stations in the future, further lowering the threshold for use and expanding the application scenarios of identity authentication.

World expands identity verification methods to combat deep fake technology

In addition to the hardware update, World is also introducing new authentication options. Through "World ID Credentials", users with NFC-enabled government-issued passports can verify their identity directly through the World app without using Orb biometric hardware.

This new feature not only increases the flexibility of identity verification, but also accelerates the adoption of WorldID.

In addition, World announced the "World ID Deep Face" product and stated that it has solved the most difficult problem of deep fake face changing. This technology will allow videos in the app to detect whether AI forgery is involved, ensuring that the person communicating with the person is a real person.

In a world where AI-generated content is becoming increasingly popular, the emergence of this technology can be said to be a major development for online social and business transactions.

The World app service has now attracted 15 million users, 7 million of whom have successfully completed verification, and this number is expected to grow further with the launch of these new products.
