Hong Kong Police Uncover Crypto Fraud Using Deepfake Technology, 27 Arrested!

- The Hong Kong Police (HKPF) has uncovered a cross-border fraud operation that used deepfake technology to dupe men into fake cryptocurrency investments.

- The scam targeted men through fake online romances, with victims reportedly losing around $46 million.

- On October 9, police raided the scam center in Hung Hom, arresting 27 people aged 21-34, and confiscating computers, mobile phones, luxury watches, and around $25,750.

- The scammers used AI to create realistic interactions, pretending to be attractive women and inviting victims to invest in fake cryptocurrency platforms.

- The scam center was so organized that it even had training manuals in Chinese and English to teach them how to build fake romances.
