Canadian Diplomats Issue Stern Warning to India: No Tolerance for Criminal Activity

Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly has issued a clear warning to the remaining Indian diplomats in Canada, declaring that any further criminal activities on Canadian soil will not be tolerated. This follows the expulsion of six Indian diplomats earlier this week, after the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) revealed substantial evidence linking Indian agents to murder and extortion operations in Canada, reportedly acting under orders from New Delhi.

In a dramatic turn of events, India’s High Commissioner was among those expelled, being identified as a key figure in the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Canadian Sikh activist, on June 18, 2023, in British Columbia. India has vehemently denied these allegations and retaliated by expelling six Canadian diplomats from India.

However, Joly emphasized that the evidence points to New Delhi employing criminal networks in Canada to carry out violent acts, particularly targeting Sikh separatists who are advocating for an independent Sikh state in India.

Addressing the gravity of the situation, Joly remarked, "There was a clear threat, which is why the RCMP took the extraordinary step of publicly acknowledging that Canadians were being intimidated, extorted, and even receiving death threats due to the involvement of Indian agents and diplomats." She further stressed, "This level of transnational repression is unprecedented in Canadian history and will not be allowed to continue on our soil."

The statement comes amid growing support for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau across Canada's political spectrum in the ongoing diplomatic dispute with India. The situation remains tense as both nations grapple with these serious accusations.
