Freedom Factory, the team behind the ethOS operating system, has introduced a new mobile device called the “dGen1” that is used to interact with Web3 applications, use decentralized finance protocols, and sign Ethereum transactions.

The device is built on ethOS, a fork of the Android operating system, and includes a built-in web browser, touchscreen, audio speaker, and a separate display that displays transaction metadata. However, the dGen1 does not appear to have telecommunications capabilities.

A key feature of the dGen1 is the lightweight node client on the device, meaning users will not have to rely on third-party RPC nodes to interact with the blockchain.

According to Freedom Factory, the device will start shipping in spring 2025, and Freedom Factory will join the list of Web3 developers entering the mobile hardware space. That list includes Solana with its upcoming Seeker smartphone and Mysten Labs with its SuiPlay0X1 handheld gaming device.
