what happen?

  • By Sam. Worldcoin, founded by Sam Altman, has officially removed "coin" and changed it to "World". The grand goal of "expanding identity authentication services" has not changed.

  • In his speech on October 17, Ultraman revealed new products and technology updates, such as a new version of the biometric device "Orb2.0" and integration with multiple mainstream applications.

  • It was also announced at the event that the regions supported by WorldID would be expanded to include Taiwan and Malaysia, making many netizens look forward to being able to complete registration in Taiwan.

Renamed “World”: A simpler, broader vision for digital identity verification

The core of the World project is to allow people around the world to "prove that they are human beings" anonymously on the Internet, not robots or AI.

So Worldcoin created an identity verification system that allows users to scan their eye irises, create an identity verification account, and issue WLD cryptocurrency and WorldID through the silver spherical biometric device "Orb".

After the project was renamed, World's positioning became clearer. It not only focuses on cryptocurrency, but also focuses on digital identity verification, especially in preventing counterfeit digital identities generated by AI.

At this conference, World launched an upgraded version of "Orb2.0". This new device is driven by NVIDIA hardware, with computing performance 5 times higher than the previous generation and a simpler design.

Because Orb2.0 is smaller and uses fewer parts, it makes the device easier to produce and can greatly increase the speed of deployment in various places. Rich Heley, the designer of World, said that the company's goal is to deploy more than 1,000 new Orbs around the world, placing them in daily scenes such as coffee shops, and even summoning them to your home at any time through the app like ordering pizza.

At the same time, World also plans to open "advanced verification experience" stores in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Mexico City. These stores will be filled with Orbs for users to go to for identity verification.

What’s more interesting is that these devices may also appear in some self-service stations in the future, further lowering the threshold for use and expanding the application scenarios of identity authentication.

World expands identity verification methods to combat deep fake technology

In addition to the hardware update, World is also introducing new authentication options. Through "World ID Credentials", users with NFC-enabled government-issued passports can verify their identity directly through the World app without using Orb biometric hardware.

This new feature not only increases the flexibility of identity verification, but also accelerates the popularity of WorldID.

In addition, World announced the "World ID Deep Face" product and stated that it has solved the most difficult problem of deep fake face changing. This technology will allow videos in the app to detect whether AI forgery is involved, thereby ensuring that the person communicating with the other party is a real person.

In a world where AI-generated content is becoming increasingly rampant, the emergence of this technology can be said to be a major development for online social and business transactions.

The World application service has attracted 15 million users so far, 7 million of whom have successfully completed verification, and this number is expected to grow further with the launch of these new products.
