TechFlow reported that on October 18, TechCrunch reported that Worldcoin announced that it would change its name to World and demonstrated a new generation of iris scanning "Orb" devices and other tools at a live event in San Francisco. World CEO Alex Blania said that the company's name change means that its business scope may go beyond its original cryptocurrency mission. Although OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is still actively involved in World's decision-making, Blania emphasized that the missions of the two companies are independent.
The new generation of Orb devices has higher production efficiency, fewer parts and three times faster operation. World plans to provide door-to-door iris scanning services through a partnership with Rappi, the largest food delivery service in Latin America. In addition, the company launched Deep Face technology, which is designed to combat online deep fakes and identity impersonation. World also announced the launch of the World ID credential beta as an alternative to government IDs for online use.
