Despite being promoted as “the greatest product ever” by Elon Musk, the Optimus Bot featured remote human assistance during the event, raising questions about the technology’s market readiness. Some attendees reported that the interaction between the robot and guests was overseen by operators, which diminished confidence in the prototype’s autonomous capabilities.

So much so that the market reacted negatively after the event. Tesla shares fell more than 10% shortly after the presentation, the biggest drop in more than two months. The main reason was the lack of a clear plan for the commercial use of the Cybercab and the uncertainty about the launch of fully autonomous vehicles in the near term.

While Tesla saw itself fall, ride-hailing companies such as Uber and Lyft took advantage of the moment. Uber rose 8% and Lyft 9% in the same period, boosted by their strategic partnerships with autonomous vehicle companies such as Waymo and Cruise.
