- Bitcoin is making a splash again! 🎉 Activity on the Runes protocol has skyrocketed, sending Bitcoin transaction fees up 32% this week, the highest since August.
- Data from IntoTheBlock shows that the amount of Bitcoin Runes transfers has tripled since August. This has Bitcoin miners smiling widely, they raked in $5 million in transaction fees last week.
- The Runes protocol, created by Casey Rodarmor, allows users to mint their own tokens on the Bitcoin network. Runes activity now takes up more than 50% of Bitcoin’s block space, according to Alkimiya.
- Average transaction fees have jumped from 7,944 sat/vB to 13,111 sat/vB in a day, up about 65%! At its peak, the median fee was 50 sat/vB, all related to four Runes mints.
- Despite the hype having died down, Runes are still in use. On Bitcoin halving day, Runes generated over $62 million and daily transaction fees reached $81 million.
