US inflation exceeds expectations, HBO's Bitcoin creator Peter Todd denies claim, Crypto.com files lawsuit against SEC in response to Wells' notice, and other events of the past week.

Bitcoin Price Tests $63,000

The first cryptocurrency started the week with growth to $64,000, after which it went into correction and on Thursday, October 10, it failed the psychological threshold of $60,000. Having recovered, digital gold tested the $63,000 mark.

At the time of writing, Bitcoin is trading at $62,450.

Most of the top 10 digital assets by capitalization ended the week in the "red zone". TRON (+5.1%) stood out for its growth.

The total capitalization of the cryptocurrency market is $2.28 trillion. The Bitcoin dominance index is 58%.

US inflation exceeds expectations

According to the results of September, annual inflation in the US amounted to 2.4% against 2.5% a month ago. The indicator exceeded market expectations of 2.3%.

On a monthly basis, the consumer price index rose 0.2%, the same as in August. The consensus forecast was for a 0.1% increase.

The indicator, excluding food and energy prices, rose 0.3% compared to the previous month and 3.3% compared to September last year. In the previous report, the figures were 0.3% and 3.2%, respectively.

Analysts expected the annual rate to remain at 3.2% and the monthly rate to slow to 0.2%.

The negative from the disappointing inflation data is holding back the jump in jobless claims from 225,000 to 258,000, compared to the forecast of 231,000. The discrepancy can be attributed to the impact of hurricanes and strikes.

Prices for services excluding housing and energy rose 0.4% after rising 0.33% in August, 0.21% in July and falling 0.05% and 0.04% in May-June. The Fed noted the importance of the metric in analyzing the trajectory of inflation.

The rent indicator, which is also important for monetary authorities, increased by 0.2% after the highest since January of 0.49% in August and 0.36% at the end of July.

Peter Todd, HBO's Bitcoin Creator, Denies Claim

In the documentary Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery, HBO credited Peter Todd as the creator of Bitcoin. The programmer denied this.

"I am not Satoshi," he wrote briefly.

The film was directed by Cullen Hoback, whose previous work, Q: Into the Storm, was dedicated to debunking the QAnon conspiracy theory popular in the US.

The authors' assumptions were based on Todd's post on the BitcoinTalk forum, which he allegedly accidentally published using his own profile.
