Tensions Escalate as North Korea Orders Artillery Readiness Near Border

North Korea announced on Sunday that it has placed its artillery units near the South Korean border on high alert, signaling full preparation to open fire. This development follows heated accusations from Pyongyang over alleged South Korean drone incursions. The North had earlier issued warnings of a "horrible disaster" if drones carrying anti-regime materials were flown over its territory again.

According to state media reports, Kim Yo-jong, the influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, issued a stark warning that the North is prepared to take "strong retaliatory action" should such flights continue. She cautioned that "attack time" could be imminent, signaling Pyongyang's readiness to respond without hesitation if provoked.

The allegations emerged after the North claimed that South Korean unmanned drones had flown over Pyongyang on three separate occasions this month. North Korea’s foreign ministry alleged that drones carrying leaflets were detected on October 3, as well as on Wednesday and Thursday of the following week. Pyongyang vowed to respond with force if such incidents were repeated.

In response, South Korea's defense ministry dismissed the claims, asserting that any attempt by the North to harm South Korean citizens would lead to "the collapse of the Kim regime." Although Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun initially denied any drone flights across the border, the Joint Chiefs of Staff later admitted they could not fully confirm whether the North's allegations were accurate.

As tensions rise on the Korean Peninsula, both sides are standing their ground, raising concerns over the potential for further escalation.
