At the Bitcoin Amsterdam 2024 conference, speakers hilariously highlighted how academic blunders are misleading the media and policymakers about Bitcoin.

- Andrew Bailey from Yale-NUS College pointed out a "unit error" in a widely-cited paper on BTC emissions. "Academics have been wrong about Bitcoin, but nobody reads this stuff. Right? Right?" he quipped.

- Bradley Rettler of the University of Wyoming noted that journalists, pressed for time, often spread these inaccuracies. "When you start with crap, you end up getting crap," he joked.

- Craig Warmke warned that flawed data is leading to harmful regulations, like Sweden's proposed BTC mining tax.
