On October 8, 2024, Invest Hong Kong announced the details of Hong Kong Fintech Week 2024. The theme of the 9th Hong Kong Fintech Week is "Lighting the New Road of Fintech", and the flagship event will be held from October 28 to October 1, standing at the forefront of global fintech development. In line with Hong Kong's vision, the goal is to lead the future of financial services and other fields. As the official media partner, MetaEra will provide full support for event coverage throughout the event.
The largest and most influential gathering of international financial and technology leaders
As Hong Kong's leading fintech event, Hong Kong Finance Week is hosted by the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau and Invest Hong Kong in collaboration with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) and the Insurance Authority (IA). It is expected to attract more than 30,000 participants from more than 100 economies.
The conference will be held at the AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong from October 28 to 29, and will feature hundreds of distinguished speakers, on-site sponsors and on-site merchants, bringing together an initial pool of expertise and cutting-edge fintech innovations.
Hong Kong Fashion Week has won the trust of mainland and international companies and markets. This year's show will have a large number of mainland large technology companies showcasing their latest innovations, as well as famous speakers and representatives from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Middle East, which will consolidate Hong Kong's multifaceted business connections and landscape.
Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Christopher Hui said: "The existence of faults in Hong Kong and the improvement of its financial infrastructure make it a 'super piston' and 'super value adder' for financial technology. Hong Kong is ready to lead the way in change and tap opportunities. Hong Kong ranks third in the latest Global Financial Centres Index and first in the Asia-Pacific region. In terms of financial technology, Hong Kong has risen from fifth to ninth place, mainly ranking among the top ten financial technology centers in the world. This reflects the joint efforts of the government, financial regulators and innovators to promote the development of financial technology in Hong Kong."
Mr Hui added that Hong Kong is well-positioned to achieve positive outcomes from FinTech Week through various initiatives aimed at attracting and retaining strategic companies and talent, and that this year's event will pave the way for an efficient and interconnected, sustainable global economy through FinTech.
Explore tomorrow's solutions today
Hong Kong is currently ranked among the top three financial centres and top ten fintech centres in the world. The 2024 Hong Kong Financial Week is expected to become a vibrant centre for creativity, innovation and global collaboration, consolidating Hong Kong’s institutional advantages and its ability to achieve breakthroughs in innovative financial services and lead market innovation.
This year, Finance Week is placing special emphasis on cutting-edge Hong Kong technologies such as artificial intelligence. A recent survey showed that 38% of Hong Kong executives in finance have begun to adopt generative AI, the highest proportion among all relevant markets and far higher than the global average of 26%.
The main venue will host eight special forums to explore the latest technologies and cross-industry connections. These forums include the Global Forum, Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Forum, Blockchain and Digital Assets Forum, Payment and Other Fintech Forum, Insurance Technology Forum, Green Fintech and Impact Forum, Wealthtech and Investtech Forum and Hong Kong Connect Forum, giving participants a comprehensive understanding of the evolving Fintech landscape. The stage and area will also be designed based on the Chinese wisdom of "Five Elements" and "Yin and Yang".
A host of exciting community events will take place in Hong Kong and Shenzhen between October 28 and November 1. These include tours of the Greater Bay Area, satellite and social events, events and workshops, and the inaugural Web3 x 3 basketball game.
Director General of Investment Promotion Anne Lau said: "As a leading international financial centre, FinTech has always been an important driver of Hong Kong's economy. Last year, Hong Kong climbed into the top 10 in the United Nations' Global Frontier Technology Readiness Index. This readiness for technologies such as blockchain and blockchain AI is critical to ensuring the long-term security of the financial services industry. We will continue to enhance Hong Kong's strengths in financial services, innovative technology and family offices. Our strategic focus is to strengthen our presence in key markets such as residential and the Middle East. FinTech Week will be a platform for Hong Kong to take action in these key areas. It is an engine to drive companies to come to Hong Kong and build a bridge for Hong Kong's FinTech ecosystem to seize global opportunities."
This year, the semi-finalists of the Global Fast Track will be invited to Hong Kong for an awards presentation during the Hong Kong Financial Week, which will take place on the second day. This is a great opportunity for qualified fintech innovators to showcase themselves in front of thousands of spectators, key corporate and investor investors seeking fintech solutions and investment opportunities. This year, the program received an overwhelming response, with 500 applications from 56 economies around the world.
