The Moscow court has chosen a preventive measure for five defendants in the case of the Cryptex crypto exchange and the UAPS payment system; all of them received house arrest for a period of 1 month and 28 days. This list includes Alexander Tereshchenko, Ruslan and Roman Orekhovsky, Elena Polyakova and Artem Lysenko.

Following Cryptex-related searches in St. Petersburg and other regions, 96 people were detained and taken to Moscow to face charges. The suspects are accused of organizing a criminal community, unauthorized access to computer information, illegal circulation of payment instruments, and illegal banking activities.

A week earlier, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on Cryptex, related payment services, and its alleged founder for “providing services to cybercriminals.” According to Russian investigators, the turnover of UAPS, Cryptex, and more than 30 related online services exceeded 100 billion rubles last year. The US Treasury Department believes that more than $720 million (66.5 billion rubles) passed through Cryptex alone, which is directly related to various types of cybercrime.
