Former US spy Edward Snowden made impressive claims about Solana at the Token2049 conference.

Snowden attended the recently concluded Token2049 cryptocurrency event in Singapore. Speaking at the event, Snowden stated that Solana is being centralized to operate more efficiently.

Referring to the intended use of Solana, the former agent said;

“Nobody uses Solana except memecoin and scammers. Because if someone develops something important in Solana, it will be on the radar of the states.”

Impressive words for Solana

Edward Snowden, an American computer expert and former intelligence contractor, has made bold claims about Solana. The 41-year-old whistleblower has sparked a heated debate about decentralization.

Snowden claims that the current structure of Solana is centralized and that no significant developments have been seen in the blockchain in question.

Several prominent members of the Ethereum community also agree with the idea that Solana is centralized. Ryan Berkmans, one of the Ethereum developers, referenced the validator client and the cost of running a validator node. Based on the nodes mentioned, Berkmans claimed that Snowden was telling the truth.

While Solana operates through a single client, Ethereum is traded through six different clients. Mert Mumtaz, CEO of Helius Labs, stated that contrary to the claims, there are three clients in Solana. Mumtaz said:

“SOL has multiple clients, Frankendancer on mainnet, Jito on mainnet and Firedancer on mainnet in non-voting mode…”

On the other hand, Solana co-founder Anatoly Ykovenko argues that Solana has two customers. Ykovenko says;

“Firedancer is running on mainnet! It just hasn't voted or created blocks yet. But it fully verifies all state transitions. Now there are officially two clients.”

While Snowden’s statements have attracted attention, the drop in SOL’s price has attracted attention. SOL is down 13% since October 1.
