According to a statement from the Australian police on October 3, Australian police seized $6.4 million worth of cryptocurrency in an operation against the encrypted communication network Ghost, which the authorities said was "built specifically for underworld criminals." The seized cryptocurrency has been transferred to AFP's secure cryptocurrency storage, and the authorities will seek permanent confiscation.
An AFP spokesperson said the operation, codenamed "Kraken," had nothing to do with the cryptocurrency exchange Kraken and was an investigation into a dedicated encrypted communications platform.
