YouTube Major Update
Recently, YouTube announced several important updates from the fourth quarter of 2024 to 2025 on its official blog, as well as upcoming new features.
Among the many functions, the biggest highlight is the new artificial intelligence (AI) video generation function - Veo. This function is specially designed for Shorts creators. It uses Google DeepMind's video generation model to create new video backgrounds and AI short film.
According to the official announcement, Veo is based on the generative models introduced by Google over the years, including Generative Query Network (GQN), DVD-GAN, Imagen-Video, Phenaki, WALT, VideoPoet and Lumiere - combining architecture, scaling rules and other novel technologies to improve quality and output resolution.
What is Veo? AI background and 6-second short video function
The Veo feature launched by YouTube includes two important parts: the first is AI background, where creators can use AI-generated scenes to integrate them into videos and add visual effects. This feature is expected to be launched before the end of 2024.
The second is the 6-second short video generation function. Creators can directly let AI automatically generate a complete 6-second short video through a simple text description. This function is expected to be launched in 2025.
YouTube CEO Neal Mohan said that the Veo feature can not only help creators save time, but also make their videos more visually appealing, thereby increasing the number of views and subscriptions. He hopes that Veo can bring more benefits to creators. With more inspiration, they can create more Shorts faster and easier.
YouTube is also working with filmmaker Donald Glover and his creative studio Gilga to experiment with Veo on a film project.
AI watermark: protecting intellectual property rights
Many other platforms, such as Facebook, have been criticized for being flooded with AI-generated spam.
In the face of intellectual property rights issues caused by AI-generated content, YouTube has taken strict measures in advance: all content generated by Veo, whether background or 6-second short clips, will be accompanied by AI watermarks to clearly indicate that these contents are produced by Created by AI.
Such markings allow viewers to distinguish which content was created by human creators and which was generated with AI assistance, reducing the risk of intellectual property disputes.
Other feature updates
In addition to the Veo function, YouTube will also transform the "Inspiration" tab in YouTube Studio to use generative AI to provide more video ideas, titles, and thumbnail suggestions to help creators increase views and interactivity.

In addition, YouTube plans to expand its existing community functions in early 2025, not only adding a new function called "Hype", allowing viewers to more directly support emerging creators they are optimistic about, and increase the number of new creators through special rankings. Opportunities for these creators to be discovered.
In addition, YouTube is testing a new feature called "Automatic Dubbing" that allows creators to automatically generate translated audio tracks in different languages, thereby attracting more international audiences and increasing the global exposure of videos.
