Odaily Planet Daily News: Indiana man Evan Light pleaded guilty on Monday to charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to launder money, and stole more than $37 million worth of cryptocurrency from nearly 600 victims, the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a statement. Court documents show that in February 2022, Light "participated in a cyber intrusion involving an investment holding company located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota." The documents also stated that Light was accused of stealing personal information and then stealing assets from hundreds of victims. According to the statement, Light was assisted by "one or more unidentified" people. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is in charge of the investigation. "Under Light's control, the stolen cryptocurrency was then transferred to various parts of the world, including multiple mixing services and gambling sites, to hide his identity and hide virtual currency," the statement said. Light could face up to 20 years in prison for each charge he pleads guilty to.
